DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nTuesday\, March 10 marks our seventh annual Advocacy Day in Sacramento!  We invite you to join your fellow FPA members from around the state for a day on the “Hill\,” sponsored by FPA of California.  This is your opportunity to meet with your elected representatives to discuss some of the Legislation\, Policy Issues and Practices that are most important to you in the practice of your profession. \nAdvocacy Day is our largest and most attended advocacy event of the year.  Participation from FPA members has more than doubled in recent years from 14 in 2014 to 32 members in 2019\, and we anticipate even more attendance this year.  As a coalition\, we continue to build lasting relationships at all levels of government including members from the office of the Department of Business Oversite\, Insurance Commissioner\, State Treasurer and State Controller. \nLocation: State Capitol\, 1315 10th Street\, Sacramento\, CA 95814 \nRegistration: Click here

SUMMARY:March 2020 Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Due to increasing concerns about Coronavirus\, our executive committee decided to cancel our chapter meeting this Friday\, March 13\, 2020.\nWe will work with Dr. Jim McCabe to reschedule his presentation to potentially be held at our November 13\, 2020 chapter meeting.\nMeals will be prepared for Friday’s meeting as planned but will be donated to a local shelter. Maggiano’s has been very understanding of the situation and was very happy for the opportunity to prepare food for donation. \nWe apologize for any inconvenience this change causes but hope you will join us at a future event. \nOverview:\nWhen an individual is suffering from diminished capacity\, she is exposed to a number of risks\, including: elder abuse\, undue influence and physical harm. As an advisor\, what do I do? Are there limits in terms what I can and can’t do without creating liability for myself and my practice? How do I approach this difficult conversation with my client? When can I share information with other stakeholders? Are there resources in the community to assist clients and their families in these situations? \nTopic: Advising Clients Effectively in the New Environment. Over a period of more than 30 years\, Dr. McCabe has assisted hundreds of families with planning in the areas of eldercare and long term care planning. \nJim was a member of FPA for a number of years and at one time served on the Board of The Financial Planning Association in Phoenix\, Arizona. He has been a frequent presenter to the FPA and has consulted extensively with estate planning professionals\, attorneys\, and financial advisors. Some of his clients have included: Cisco Systems\, Harris Trust and The Federal Reserve Bank. \nDr. McCabe also lectures at University of California\, Berkeley and San Jose State University \nHe holds Masters Degrees from the University of Hawaii and earned his PhD at the University of California\, Berkeley.
