SUMMARY:Financial Firm Tour - May 2018
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nHave you ever wondered if there was another way to run your financial planning practice? What are the various roles available within an RIA? Do you need to have a broker-dealer affiliation? What are some of the challenges of joining an ensemble firm versus starting your own? \nIf you’ve ever asked yourself any of these questions\, the FPA of Silicon Valley has arranged RIA tours again this year to give chapter members an inside look into successful firms. Each firm has graciously offered to open up their offices and their staff to share their experiences. Come prepared with questions! \nOur first Financial Firm Tour of 2018 will be hosted by United Capital in Los Altos.  Firm tours are offered to FPA members only.  They are a great way to learn about different RIAs and their best practices as well as get your questions answered.  Firm tours are not only popular with new advisors but also with seasoned advisors interested in learning about other firms. \nCost:\n$10 per person.  FPA members only as space is limited.    Register here. \nIf you are interested in joining FPA\, please contact Member Services at 800-322-4237 option 2\, or memberservices@onefpa.org.  Or\, you may click here for information about benefits and here to join online.  Be sure to choose Silicon Valley as your chapter upon joining.

SUMMARY:May 2018 Joint Brown Bag / Student Forum Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nGenerational Differences in Client Engagement: How to Adapt to Different Generational Needs and Capabilities\n****Please join us in this collaborative session between the UCSCX In Silicon Valley’s PFP Student Forum Group\, and the FPASV’s Brown Bag Lunch team. A light lunch will be served. Registration is required and seating will be limited.**** \nEngaging clients effectively has become increasingly challenging in today’s world\, not because it’s difficult to find a way to communicate with clients but because there’s often uncertainty about how best to communicate with different generations from the young to the elderly. \nFinancial Advisers typically have clients that run the gamut of demographics and must adapt accordingly. In this session\, we will hear from a few advisers on the different expectations\, needs\, beliefs\, and capabilities of clients from the “major” generations: Baby Boomers\, Generation Xers\, and Millennials. \nThis will be an interactive panel session\, with the audience leading with specific questions. The content is expected to include the different financial needs and priorities of each group\, client expectations for their advisers and themselves\, preferred communication methods and styles\, uses of technology\, and other areas. It is also expected that some common assumptions/perceptions about each group may be dispelled or confirmed. \nRegistration for this free event is available here.  Registration closes May 16th.  Badges will be prepared for those registering for this event.  Walk-ins may be restricted. \nMeeting Schedule: 11:30 am – 12:00 pm (Networking / Light Lunch Served); 12:00 pm (Presentation Begins); 1:30 pm (Meeting Ends) \nPanelists’ Biographies: \nEric Solve\, CFP®\,EA\, Partner at Wade Financial Advisory    Eric is a Senior Advisor and partner at Wade Financial Advisory.  He is a Certified Financial Planner® and an Enrolled Agent.  He is passionate about family\, client relationships\, professional growth\, and feels his life experiences are his greatest assets.  He is an active member of the FPA of Silicon Valley and served on the board of directors for several years.  He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from San Diego State University\, and received a Certificate in Personal Financial Planning from the University of California at Santa Cruz Extension.  Eric\, his wife Bridget\, and their two daughters live in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  They enjoy outdoor activities\, cooking\, spending time with friends and family\, and appreciate traveling to new places. \nLloyd Yamada\, CFP®\, CEO\, Aspire Planning Associates    Lloyd began his professional life in electrical engineering as a student at University of Hawaii and then at Stanford Telecom for nearly a decade before transitioning into a new career as a financial planner in his mid-40s. He aspired to own a practice\, and decided that he would apply the best practices of the companies he worked for while discarding the worst. Over the years because of his experience\, he understands the need of transitioning clients with strategies that support them as they move into the next phase of their journey. He emphasizes steps that can build confidence and support clarity\, such as career counseling or new income strategies.  Today\,  Lloyd spends more time running the business than direct client engagement. He oversees the firm’s strategy and revenue base\, and works with his partners to integrate financial planning and investment strategies so clients can continue to build on their wealth’s potential. \nLloyd and wife Suzanne are longtime residents of Cupertino. When Lloyd is not in the office\, he’s usually pursuing his passion for capturing the beauty of landscapes in photography including the countryside of Croatia\, and soon Antarctica\, his future favorite travel spot.
