SUMMARY:November 2024 Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Click Here To RSVP\nTopic: New Perspectives on Roth Conversion\n\n\nSPEAKER: Barry H. Sacks\, PhD\, JD\n  \nSUMMARY \n\nJoin us for an insightful presentation on the costs and benefits of using a Reverse Mortgage Credit Line to pay the tax for a Roth conversion of an IRA or 401(k). We’ll begin by comparing the advantages of Roth vs. traditional accounts\, followed by a discussion of the financial impacts of various tax payment options\, including securities\, cash\, and reverse mortgages. A quantitative analysis\, including Monte Carlo simulations and tax treatments\, will showcase the differences in after-tax cash flow and legacy outcomes. Don’t miss this detailed exploration of a key financial strategy! \n\nSPEAKER BIO \nBarry Sacks\, a graduate of Harvard Law School\, has practiced primarily in the area of retirement plan law. He has been a Certified Specialist in taxation law for more than 40 years\, and he has been listed in “Best Lawyers in America” for more than 20 years. \nBarry also holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from MIT. His doctoral dissertation involved extensive mathematical modeling. This modeling carried over to his pioneering research paper modeling the use of reverse mortgage credit lines to offset the adverse sequence of investment returns in retirement accounts. This Coordinated Strategy enables significant enhancement of the sustained cash flow throughout long retirements. \nThe first research paper\, presenting the “Coordinated Strategy\,” was published in the Journal of Financial Planning\, in February 2012. Two sequels\, expanding the application of the Coordinated Strategy to a much wider range of retirees than initially recognized\, were published in the same journal\, in October 2017 and December 2021. (The 2017 paper was co-written with Stephen Sacks and Peter Neuwirth. The 2021 paper was co-written with Stephen Sacks and Philip Walker.) \nMore recently\, Dr. Sacks’s research on the uses of reverse mortgages has been in the realms of providing liquidity in Silver Divorce and providing the means for doing Roth conversions of traditional IRAs and 401(k) accounts. \n\n\nMore Information\nTicket price includes: lunch\, Starbucks coffee & decaf\, hot water with Teavana teas\, and Ice water & iced tea. \nThere is also a bar in the hotel lobby if attendees want to continue networking after the meeting. \n1.0 CFP CEU pending for this session  \nNo refunds after 11 am the day before the meeting.

SUMMARY:52nd Annual FPA NorCal Conference
DESCRIPTION:52nd Annual FPA NorCal Conference\nLEARN MORE: https://www.fpanorcal.org/ \nREGISTRATION TO OPEN IN DECEMBER 2023 \n\n\nWhat Is FPA NorCal?\n\n\n\nThe FPA NorCal Conference is the premier financial planning conference dedicated to the education\, knowledge\, and growth of financial planners. We cover the latest in financial education\, professional development\, and business success. Every year we host inspiring speakers who contribute useful insights to our industry.\n\n\n\nInspiring Excellence And Fostering Community\n\n\n\n\nWe are dedicated to providing leadership and great networking opportunities. Our purpose of delivering excellence is what motivates us to offer high-quality conferences year after year and has resulted in a national reputation. \nThe FPA NorCal Conference is put on every year in a collaborative effort by volunteers from the four local Bay Area FPA Chapters\, East Bay\, Northern CA (Sacramento)\, Silicon Valley\, and San Francisco.  Our motto within the FPA NorCal planning committee is a conference For Us\, By Us. \nEmbrace Change is the theme for the 52nd annual FPA NorCal Conference and it transcends being merely a conference theme; it forms the very essence and heart of the entire FPA NorCal Conference. \nChange.  Change is the one thing in life that is  constant and unavoidable.  Change is growing faster and more dynamically with each turn of the calendar.  There has been\, and there continues to be\, change across so many aspects of a financial advisor’s daily life from the regulatory environment\, the technology we use\, our clients’ priorities shifting dramatically during a global pandemic\, and the increased emphasis on investors’ psychology.  Change in our industry over the past few years has been exponential. \n\n\n2024 FPA NorCal Conference Theme – Embrace Change\n\n\n\n\nNorCal features a 5‑track series of breakouts spanning 2 days\, with a very rigorous conference committee process that vets all the sessions and doesn’t permit any ‘pay‑to‑play’ speaking slots\, which typically includes a mixture of both more technical (CE‑oriented) sessions and practice management sessions. \nIn addition\, the NorCal agenda features 4 national‑caliber keynote speakers. Registration to the conference includes a recording of all the conference sessions (not just the keynotes\, but every breakout\, for those who want to go back and listen!).”
