Come attend a Brown Bag event that addresses the not so often discussed issues associated with public sector employee retirement plans. This session will provide an overall perspective of the pension benefits for CalPERS and CalSTERS and will also discuss the public sector defined contribution plans basics and variations compared to their private counterparts. The session will present a case study that will help you to understand and address the issues faced by your public servant clients; including the windfall provision, option to buy additional years of service and the joint and survivor issue.
Featuring Sandra Wales, MBA, CMA, CFP(R), founder and President of Wales Investments Inc, an investment advisor registered with the SEC. Her firm specializes in retirement planning and investment services to individuals, corporate employees, business owners and retirees. Prior to starting her own firm, Sandra worked in the securities industry with various firms, and has over 20 years of experience as a business and finance professional at various Fortune 500 firms. Sandra is an active member of the SV FPA, and while she was the Director of the Public Relations Committee, projects under her direction gained national recognition in promoting financial planning education among underserved groups. Sandra also teaches Pension and Benefits Planning at the UCSC-extension in Silicon Valley.
