Junior Achievement

Silicon Valley FPA is partnering with Junior Achievement of Northern California to promote financial literary among local elementary schools. The Junior Achievement programs include six sequential themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and two capstone experiences. Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. The sequential activities build on studies from each preceding grade and prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning.  To have the greatest impact the chapter has chosen the half day format, usually from 8:30 - 1:00, that can require from 10 to 25 chapter volunteers. Junior Achievement provides all program materials and has materials geared to each grade level. These are all the Elementary School Day programs.

Ourselves = Kindergarten
Our Families = 1st grade
Out Community = 2nd grade
Our City = 3rd grade
Our Region = 4th grade
Our Nation = 5th grade

FPA SV has participated in Junior Achievement half day events at Sandpiper Elementary School in Foster City and Edison Brentwood Academy in East Palo Alto. In addition, many Silicon Valley chapter members have chosen to support Junior Achievement through their weekly six to nine week program.

FPA Silicon Valley is proud to be a part of a program that starts individuals on the right track to financial literacy at such a young age.

Kerby Woo, CFP® is the Project Manager for JA. JA offers two types of volunteer programs. The first is teaching an hour program for 6 – 9 weeks. The second is a half day program from approximately 8 – 1 pm. All materials are produced and furnished by JA and require about 1 ½ hours to review prior to the program. For the half day program a one hour orientation program may be offered by the JA Director.
