FPA Committees that would welcome YOU….

Career Development: Be a mentor; reach out to students; encourage new financial planning professionals.

  • Speak on a topic of your choice at a Student Forum meeting
  • Help launch a study group for new professionals
  • Join the Committee to help define and implement new programs
  • Create an internship position in your office and post the offering on the FPASV website


Consumer Awareness: Elevate public awareness; promote financial literacy.

  • Write an article on a non-investment topic for your local community newspaper and post it to our new blog


Legislative Affairs: Help shape legislation and the future of the profession.

  • Volunteer for the FPA Financial Planning Clinic during Financial Planning Week
  • Write a letter to your representative expressing your views on pending financial regulation
  • Listen in on a FPA Government Affairs conference call
  • Volunteer to be a part of a region wide effort to educate members on pending California legislation that would affect financial planners and advisors


Public Relations: Enhance your visibility and be seen as a financial planning resource.

  • Volunteer to be a content editor or reviewer for our website
  • Volunteer to be a photographer and reporter for one FPA sponsored event then write an article for our website


Member Communications: Sharpen your communication skills; engage members in FPA MA events.

  • Convince one of your non-member colleagues to attend a chapter meeting and introduce them to at least 3 members
  • Give a presentation on the benefits of being an FPA member to a company that employs CFPs


Membership: Increase Chapter membership.

  • Help plan a social event
  • Distribute membership information at the quarterly meeting
  • Make telephone calls to welcome new members
  • Join an advisor practice group


Pro Bono: A call to action… give the gift of education through large-scale initiatives.

  • IMMEDIATE:
    • Volunteer with Tax Aid on 2/27, 3/6 or 3/13 in Daly City
    • Volunteer for “VITA” (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)
  • Assist military while on active reserves with educational seminars and one-to-one sessions
  • Support local schools through Junior Achievement (JA) programs
  • Help Foster Youth with Financial Literacy Projects
  • Give back to those in need during Financial Planning Week
  • Promote Financial Literacy at local libraries
  • Volunteer to be a part of planning a regional financial planning fair for Financial Planning Week 2011
  • Volunteer at or for a non-financial charity


Partnerships: Create alliances with partners.

  • Draft a survey to evaluate partner’s satisfaction
  • Meet with partners at a quarterly roundtable
  • Welcome partners who exhibit at a quarterly meeting
  • Volunteer to be on the partnership committee and help establish excellent relationships with our current partners
  • Arrange to meet with one of our current partners and interview them on how they feel about their relationship with our chapter


Programs: Infinite Possibilities: Integrating our Life and Profession with Education and Inspiration.

  • Suggest topics and speakers for educational programs
  • Reach out to an author who has stimulated your professional thinking
  • Review and critique a potential speakers’ presentation in your area of expertise
  • Share your expertise on a topic of your choice as a speaker at a Brown Bag lunch
  • Locate a meeting room(s) on the Peninsula for future Brown Bag lunch meetings
  • Volunteer to interview an upcoming speaker and write an article for our website
  • Recruit an inspirational speaker to for a future chapter meeting
