About Brown Bag Meetings

Brown Bag Schedule | Brown Bag Team Members | Brown Bag Speakers FAQBrown Bags are lunchtime meetings with a focused topic and speaker, typically attended by 10-15 people, and they provide a more casual and intimate setting to learn about and discuss specific topics. These meetings are offered at a nominal cost of $10 to FPA members, though if you want to eat, you should plan to bring a bag lunch. Pre-registration (via email) is essential to ensure that we have sufficient room, as well as to facilitate communication in the event of a location or date change.  Occasionally, we have very popular speakers and are not able to accommodate all who wish to attend, so early registration is suggested. The goal of the Brown Bag team is to set up a rolling 3-6 month schedule of interesting, advanced, and even obscure topics that will appeal to a different group of members than the regular monthly meetings. We envision Brown Bag lunches as expanding the educational offerings of FPA-SV, as well as providing a more intimate setting for member networking. And, for our members who are unable to attend the monthly meetings, Brown Bags provide an opportunity to meet and network with fellow professionals around a topic of mutual interest.

Information and Signups

Brown bags are usually scheduled on the 3rd Friday of the month, but the date can change depending upon the speaker’s schedule. The location can be different for each Brown Bag as we use different member’s conference rooms.  When you register, you will be provided with the specific location.  Preregistration via an email to the Brown Bag host listed in the meeting description is required as seating is limited to the size of the conference room being used.  Payment is made at the time of the meeting.  We only accept checks and cash as we cannot process credit card transactions.

Feedback

The Brown Bag Committee seeks your feedback on possible topics and speakers. Please send your input for the Brown Bag Team to Cynthia Riley at Cynjriles@aol.com.

FAQs

Q:  I am a member of another chapter of the FPA. May I still attend your Brown Bag lunch meeting?
A:  Yes, we welcome all FPA members, regardless of chapter, to our Brown Bags.

Q:  May I bring a guest?
A:  Yes, we welcome guests of FPA members. This is one way to introduce new people to our FPA chapter in a more limited setting by letting them experience our educational and networking opportunities with a smaller group.  When you register, please mention that you would like to bring a guest. Guests are charged the same $10 fee that FPA members pay.

Q:  I didn’t register, but I would like to attend. Do you accept walk-ins?
A:  Please contact the Brown Bag team member listed as a contact for the specific Brown Bag if you would like to attend. Seating is limited. And, as circumstances have forced us in the past to change the location of a meeting, it is important that we know who the attendees are so we can reach them in the event of a change.

Q:  Do Brown Bag lunch meetings qualify for CE credits?
A:  We do not send our materials to the CFP Board for review, so these lunch meetings do not officially qualify for CE credits.

Q:  I have a conference room that could be used for Brown Bag meetings.  Do you need additional conference room space?
A:  We are always looking for additional meeting spaces as our needs and our member room availability change frequently.  If you have a room available that seats 10-15 people, please let us know.  If we cannot make use of it immediately, we may be able to do so in the future.  If you have a room that seats 20-25, we would love to hear from you.

Q:  I have a topic or speaker that I think would be of interest to some of our members for a Brown Bag lunch meeting. How can I put this on the future agenda?
A:  Please contact one of our team members to discuss your idea and determine if it would be a fit for a Brown Bag lunch meeting:
